A Christian Athletes Game Day Prayer

Holy God, thank you for my opponent who is also my neighbor. Help me to show them respect by competing fiercely and fairly against them. Help me to honor and love you and your image bearers whom I have the privilege to compete against by self-sacrificially giving my all for your glory. May we spur one another on toward excellence and sharpen one another today as iron sharpens iron. My identity is in Christ, not sports, but I thank you for your good gift of sports. May the perishable crown of victory that I pursue remind me of the more important imperishable crown of victory I have by the grace of God in Christ. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
