An Athletes Game Day Prayer – The 5 E’s

Effort

Lord Jesus, I will exert myself using all of my athletic gifts for your glory and the good of my team. I will spent & be spent in the pursuit of victory & Christ-honoring excellence.

Energy

Lord Jesus, I thank you for the privilege to compete. May my body language and attitude express my gratitude and that I am all in for my team whether I play well or not. May my energy be contagious.

Every play (point, possession, down …)

Lord Jesus, by your design, competition is not easy, it is meant to challenge and grow us. May I be defined by how I respond to my failures today as I compete and not by my failures.

Enjoy

Lord Jesus, you have blessed me with the ability and opportunity to compete. May I strive to win, but may I delight in the competition and thank you for the opportunity and my opponent, win or lose.

Expel

Lord Jesus, may I experience and learn from my failures today. Failures are not pleasant but may I expel them by pressing on and applying what I learn from my failures, rather than being controlled by them.
